halfway there

What a weekend. Pat and I went to check on the horses and Crystal let us know when we walked her by the stud that she was ready! He started sweet talking her and lordy I did not think Pat could hold her! Well we decided to take Precious over there and we got the opposite reaction. Precious almost pulled Pat's arms off trying to get back into the pasture away from the stud. This morning she was less anxious but she is NOT ready to breed. We will keep teasing her and the stud's owner will keep teasing her also. Hopefully soon she will be ready. If she will just relax more while the stud is talking to her then we will give her a shot to help bring her into heat. She is scared and I will not rush her. Crystal did mate yesterday. If she is pregnant then she is due July 13th 2008 give or take 10 days. I am excited!
That's my news!

horse, bo and other stuff

The horses have settled in over at the stud's place. They are not in a pasture with any other horses but the other horses can come up to the fence where they are. I go over there twice a day to check on them. I could never leave Precious anywhere again without seeing her every day.

School starts tomorrow. I cannot believe how early it is starting. Brook is not happy with who her teacher is, not because she has heard anything bad about her but because oon the supply list she lists needing another notebook in addition to the 2 she already needs. WOW. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of work! Her teacher is going to check and see if she can be tested to be in the gifted program. Once again her class will be in a trailor. Our area has grown so much that we have outgrown the school. I believe we have 10 trailors now. We are lucky at our school. The kids get regular PE, art, and computer classes. Music, unfortunately is not taught.

Has anybody tried those Air Wick micro air freshers? The one that gives a little puff every so often? I bought one and it does so much better than the scented oil plugins.

My weight loss class has ended. I have only lost 5 pounds but I feel so much better. Next month special weapons classes start. Brook is already signed up for it. Master Lee says I can sign up also. I am seriously considering it. It will be a class on using a bo staff. Now if I could be as good as this 8 YEAR OLD!!!

I need to get busy. I just spent the last couple hours reading journals!

Yesterday was a long day. I did not get much done that's for sure. Here at the house I got a load of laundry done and the animals feed and that is about it. The big thing was getting the horses shoed.
Here is a shot of Precious waiting her turn. She is not happy. Her lower lip keeps quivering.
Here is trainer Eddie Landers showing the new farriers to be how to handle a horse using the Noavel Headstall.
Here he shows what it looks like when the leg is "broke". This is when you do not have to struggle to pick up the hoof.
This is a shot of one of the instructors and a student with Crystal.
This next shot is of the young man doing Precious. He was so nervous. It was his first day at the school.
Here is another shot of Eddie Landers and another one of the instructors.

update on Baby

Today Baby found a hole in the fence and got out. Twice I had to get her back in. I have the fence repaired for now. Hopefully this behavior will stop. I cannot have a calf that is getting out. More than likely Crystal chased her and she found it. The horse still have not left the front pasture. Normally they leave in the morning and return to be feed then head back to the back again. Ever since Baby has been out they are staying put! They will get hungry! There is more to eat in the back.

Baby

Yesterday was a big day. I let Baby out of the barn into the field with the horses and the goat. Everything was going great. baby walked up to Precious and started eating from her hay pile and Precious let her! I was surprised. Next thing I know a red bomb blasted out of the barn headed towards Baby! Crystal had spotted Baby and was determined to get to her! She managed to get a kick in on the little one but not serious. baby was scared and ran. Well all the excitement got Precious running and off to the races we went. Unfortunately for Baby, Crystal was determined to get her. After a couple of hours of cutting the horses off from Baby and trying to get her back in the barn I gave up. The horses finally left Baby alone and baby was happy. EXCEPT for a black dog! Pup decided that Baby needed barking at. LOL it was funny. Baby would charge Pup. Pup was not being mean, his tail was wagging. They had met several times in the barn. I would let Pup come in with me when I would feed Baby.

Anyway I kept checking on Baby and she seemed to be okay. I was worried about her staying out all night. We do have coyotes around here and they will bring down a baby calf. I checked on her around midnight just to make sure. She was hunkered down in the brush next to the creekbank. This morning I got up early and went out to check on her. Pat feed the horses and i took baby a bucket of grain. She would not let me come up to her so I set it down about 10 feet away and walked off. After I got about 30 feet from her she started eating. I worried about that baby all day. I kept checking on her to make sure she was okay. She grazed along the fenceline all day. The horses never left the front pasture today. LOL they always head out to the back after feeding but not today.

stuff

I tell you today has been ... well it has been. LOL
First thing this morning at 8am I hear a knock on my door. Now mind you this is the first day I have slept past 6:30 in I can't tell you how long. It is the water company guy telling me that he ran my horse back up our driveway. Not what I wanted to hear right off the bat. So I get my shoes on and head out the door. I find where she went back in thru an electric gate. I had to get a piece of wire to repair that. No way to stretch the wire so I can mend it. Actually I had already gotten some wire and cutters and turned the power off before I went to look. I knew what I would find. Precious (I am assuming it was her) does not jump so I knew that the wire would be broke. Anyway I walk the fence to see where she went out at. All this and I have NOT had my cup of tea yet! I did not find any other place broken. I did find some loose wire where she may have gone out at. This is not good. The fence is not electrified at that place. I will have to run some more barbed wire and set a couple more posts. I had done a temporary fix there in the past when some dogs had run her thru the fence. I had basically forgotten that it was a TEMPORARY fix.
It is a beautiful day today. 64 degrees right now and I really do not feel like doing a darn thing except soak up some rays! It is days like this that remind me that I do have to get back on my diet and lose this weight. I must get back into my longer walks. These short ones are not cutting it. I can contribute my weight gain and no walking to nothing more than sheer laziness! It just takes a small effort to get started but I have not been doing that. My sugar is creeping up and I don't like that. I have to start caring about what my life is going to be like in the future and now. Overweight, bad health, and laziness is not what I want.
HUM maybe I should join the will exercise for comments club.
I played with my new sewing machine today. Brook has a new blue uniform that I need to sew patches on. I do not know how to sew but I am willing to learn. Actuall I think I may be a bit eager to learn! I never wanted to learn in the past but now as I get older and more settled I want something to do.
Ok it is time to check on the animals and see if Baby ate her grain. She is starting to make some headway with that. Soon, very soon, I will have to add another wire to the bottom of the fence to keep her in the field and start letting her out.
